Kitchen Iron Rice Bowl serves gorgeous charcoal-roasted meat. Highly recommended to try Charcoal roast Tan Siu BBQ Pork, Roast Chicken with Fragrant Chicken Rice and Crispy Herbal Duck.

2. Restaurant Sun Yeong Wai

Sun Yeong Wai Roasted Duck Restaurant, one of Ipoh famous culinary specialist major in barbeque and roasted meats. The shop started since 1976; at Jalan Yau Tet Shin, it has now expanded into 3 branches in Ipoh.

Passed down from father to son; Sun Yeong Wai, a brand closely synonymous with Roasted Ducks, with choices of Signature Dangui Roasted Duck and Pipa style Roasted Duck.

The duck is barbecued till perfection with crispy skin. Every bites are moist, juicy and tender.

The specialty of Sun Yeong Wai is roasted duck, besides they also serve a variety of other canton authentic dishes including Roasted Pork (Siew Yuk), Barbecue Pork (Char Siew), Roasted Chicken, stirred fried vegetable dishes (Must Have Nyonya Azha) and herbal soups.

3. Restoran Nasi Ayam Pak Kong

If you are planning your trip to include Pak Kong chicken rice as your must-eat list, we suggest that you come before it opens for business at 11:30 am; any later than that, be prepared to brace for a queue.

We were welcomed by a friendly lady, whom turns out to be the lady boss, gave us a wide smile and took our order. The shop was nicely organized, unlike other shops in Ipoh that you need to walk around to look for a seat, you just need to inform the lady boss, she will make the arrangement for you. Ah, customer service!

We ordered quite a spread of food. Steamed chicken, roasted chicken, BBQ roasted pork (char siew), roasted pork (siew yuk) , and acar (pickled vegetables).

The chicken is tender, juicy and smooth. The char siew was roasted with nice sweet charred and roasted pork was crispy. It has a good balance of fats and lean meat – so delicious!

And it complements well with Acar (pickled vegetables), appetizing with a little spicy and sour, you find yourself eating spoonful after spoonful of the fragrant oil rice.

4. Restoran Bercham Cheong Kee

If you like to go for local favourite eateries and budget friendly to your pocket. We recommend Restoran Bercham Cheong Kee; it is located in Bercham, about 20 mins drive from old town.

The specialty is BBQ roast pork (char siew); nicely caramelised, succulent, and evenly charred. Other roasted meats are roast pork (siew yuk), roast duck and roast chicken. Come early if you don’t want to miss out, the shop is specially busier during lunch hours and mostly sold out by 2 p.m.
